Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 showed off a new operator dubbed Oni coming to the game as an exclusive for Call of Duty players on PlayStation. The short reveal trailer presents Oni as a mix between classic Japanese samurai and modern soldier, wielding a pair of short swords and donning a Japanese face mask on top of standard army gear. Oni will be available alongside a unique weapon blueprint for PlayStation players who pre-order the game’s digital version. The trailer also confirmed the pre-order content will be exclusive to PlayStation for a full year following the game’s launch.

Modern Warfare 2’s exclusive Oni operator is the most recent in a long line of exclusive content PlayStation players have received throughout the franchise’s history. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War previously featured a PlayStation-exclusive Zombies mode for a year after the game’s launch before coming to Xbox and PC. PlayStation users have also often benefited from bonus campaigns providing increased XP or cosmetics in other games like Call of Duty: Vanguard and Warzone.
Modern Warfare 2’s PlayStation-exclusive content comes after Microsoft had recently quelled rumors of Call of Duty becoming an Xbox exclusive, following its purchase of Activision. Head of Xbox Phil Spencer recently wrote to Sony Interactive CEO Jim Ryan to confirm Call of Duty will continue to be supported on PlayStation for years to come. Fans have still continued to speculate that PlayStation may not continue to receive exclusive content like Oni in future games, due to Activision’s position as a Microsoft subsidiary.
The reveal of Oni was only a small part of a massive showcase for Call of Duty that introduced plenty of content coming in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. Warzone 2 revealed its new Al Mazrah map for the battle royale, alongside confirming new features like AI strongholds and 2v2 bouts in the Gulag. Modern Warfare 2 is also set to bring major changes to the Call of Duty series, including a franchise-first third-person setting. Modern Warfare 2 looks to have plenty in store for Call of Duty fans when it launches next month.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will release on October 28 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
