From now until 10 am on Monday, May 4, players will earn double XP, double weapon XP, and double their earn rate in Battle Pass tier progression. The leveling grind can be slow in Modern Warfare and Warzone, so a double experience points weekend can help players reach their point targets faster. If a player goes on a real hot streak, like some of these sharpshooters, then the earned points will accumulate in a hurry.

While the latest update to the game has, for the most part, implemented interesting changes, and offers some real challenges to unlock some powerful weapons, the update has caused some issues for the Call of Duty team. A crucial component of success in any of the team-based playlists revolves around good communication with teammates.

The influx of players flocking to the game to check out the new update or take part in the double XP event could be putting some strain on the servers, as players find that matchmaking times are long right now. Since the update, and particularly after the patch that dropped on April 30, players have found that the usually quick ping for a match is taking much longer than before.

When running a game that has a player base upwards of 50 million worldwide, keeping things running smoothly and players happy are often a challenge. For instance, the popular Warzone Bounty contract was dropped with the April 28 update in favor of the “Most Wanted” contract, which proved unpopular. After hearing the negative backlash, Infinity Ward reinstated the Bounty contract and has pulled back the Most Wanted contract for now.

Continually updating a game often leads to hiccups along the way, some things work, while others prove to be unsuccessful out of the gate. Something that never fails to bring in players is a double XP event, which players will surely enjoy all weekend long.

Seasoned players know the drill by now, but for newcomers, they will now earn double the amount of experience they normally earn through gameplay. Also, not only is player XP doubled, weapon XP and Battle Pass tier progression is as well. With Season 4 set to end next week, this will no doubt be helpful for players still working to grind out this season’s Battle Pass.

The current Double XP Weekend for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone will last until this Tuesday, August 4, the last day of Season 4. After that, players will have a whole new season and Battle Pass to take on, so they’ll want to make sure they earn as many of the current Pass’s high-tier rewards before time runs out.

Odds are the event will go off without a hitch, as most tend to do, but it’s always possible something could go amiss. Earlier this month, players reported that Modern Warfare’s first Double XP Weekend for July was bugged, resulting in players only receiving the regular amount of XP while they played. This led to some even accusing Activision of cheating them with a “fake” weekend, even if it was most likely unintentional.

It’s not the only time players have called the Double XP Weekends into question in recent times, though. A fan theory has gained traction among players, claiming Activision is throttling Battle Pass XP throughout the season, especially around Tier Sales. The gist of the accusations made so far suggest the publisher is intentionally making it harder for players to grind out the last few tiers of the Battle Pass through gameplay, effectively pressuring them to pay for those final tiers instead.

If true, then this means Double XP Weekends are basically just standard XP weekends disguised as a more generous giveaway thanks to the XP throttling. Of course, all of this is just fan speculation at the moment, so it remains to be seen how future seasons of Modern Warfare and Warzone might be affected.
