It was not long ago that a glitch made new maps appear in lobbies before they were even added to the game. Reports of strange third-person modes caused ripples through the Modern Warfare community. That is why when one player ended up in a hardcore team deathmatch, the alternate rules seemed like more than just a simple glitch.

The video was uploaded to Reddit showing what looks to be a standard hardcore team deathmatch setup. It is not until the player fires upon an enemy that the alternate rules become blatantly apparent. After unloading several rounds into the body of an enemy, it is not until a teammate headshots them that they drop. The entire match was under the effect of headshots only, which should only be possible in a private match. Either the player is cheating in Hardcore, or something else is going on.
Hardcore Team Deathmatch is a fan favorite mode that provides players with challenging battles with extremely lethal damage. The game quickly becomes less about who has the best gun in Modern Warfare and instead becomes a battle of skill. That is part of what makes a headshot only mode rather interesting.
Challenging variants are a common game mode tactic used by Infinity Ward in the past. Players have seen third-person modes, alternate weapon variants, and many other small tweaks to familiar matches to try and liven up the game experience. This bug may be an early peek into a future game mode where players must headshot only in hardcore matches.
This would not be a bad thing as it could add some much-needed variance to the camo-grind heavy title. Many of the traditional objective-based game modes have become secondary to scoring kills and completing unfair or difficult challenges set by the developer. Changes to the Modern Warfare playlist selection happen every week. Whether or not its headshot only fans can be sure something new is headed to the title.
The video could also just be an accident. There was a recent glitch that allowed players to use any attachments on their guns. This is traditionally a private match only feature that has bled into the public multiplayer mix. The same bug could result in the manifestation of game mode rules that normally would not appear. No matter the case, hardcore players might need to start sighting in on headshots in the near future.
