The first of the Easter eggs in Modern Warfare is a weapon charm that looks like jumper cables at first glance, but references a scene from the Modern Warfare 2 mission “Takedown.” In the mission, the player watches as one of the most popular characters in Call of Duty, Ghost, is about to torture a person with jumper cables for information pertaining to a person of interest.

Next up is a weapon charm that looks like a canister of gasoline, but has a much darker story tied to it. The gasoline canister is the same one used by a soldier at the end of the Modern Warfare 2 mission “Loose Ends,” where General Shepherd betrays Roach and Ghost by shooting them both, and then has a soldier light the pair on fire– one of the saddest moments in Call of Duty history.

The final charm is a revolver that General Shepherd uses throughout the entire Modern Warfare 2 campaign. Aside from using it to kill both Roach and Ghost, Shepherd uses it again in the final mission of the campaign, “Endgame,” which has one of the most memorable moments in a Call of Duty game. As General Shepherd is about to kill Captain Price, Soap saves him by throwing a knife through General Shepherd’s eye.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare developers are doing a good job at implementing subtle references to the other games, and more Easter eggs and leaks could be making an appearance online as more content is implemented.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
