Naturally, with the start of any new seasonal content for Modern Warfare there is bound to be an influx of new players. To capitalize on this, Activision has confirmed the new free multiplayer weekend for Modern Warfare, which will begin on August 7.

Activision and Infinity Ward are busy hyping players up for all the new content coming to Modern Warfare following the Season 5 update. The Season 5 battle pass has been detailed for both Modern Warfare and Warzone, and there are plenty of new rewards for players to unlock. However, even those players without the battle pass will have plenty of fun in Modern Warfare and Warzone.
For players who have not made the jump to fully purchase Modern Warfare, Activision has just announced the date for the game’s next free multiplayer weekend. Players who own the free-to-play Warzone mode will have the option to try Modern Warfare’s multiplayer for free from August 7 at 10 AM PT to August 12 at 10 AM PT. Additionally, players partaking in the free multiplayer weekend will be able to play on two of the new multiplayer maps confirmed for Season 5.
However, players participating in the free multiplayer weekend won’t have free choice over the regular multiplayer playlists in Modern Warfare’s multiplayer. Players will instead be put in, “a map mosh pit featuring a mix of deathmatch and objective modes giving the opportunity for varying engagements and tactical play each match.” Thankfully, players who own the full game will still be able to party up with players participating in the free multiplayer weekend.
The free multiplayer weekend is a fantastic, low-commitment opportunity for players who haven’t made the full jump to purchase Modern Warfare to simply try it out and see if it’s for them. Additionally, with all new Season 5 update available to preload and on the horizon, this is the perfect opportunity for fans to test the waters and jump in before a new season is fully underway. Hopefully, the Season 5 content lives up to all the hype that Activision and Infinity Ward have been building up before launch.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
