At the end of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare campaign, the character Alex seemingly sacrifices himself in an explosion. However, the Modern Warfare Season 3 multiplayer has since confirmed that Alex did not actually die in the explosion. Instead he just lost his leg and is now sporting a prosthetic, having kept a low profile until he was called back into action by Captain Price.

Some fans were upset that Alex was brought back as part of the Modern Warfare Season 3 multiplayer instead of in the campaign for inevitable Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Twitter user TMevo22 expressed as much to Kurosaki, who responded with, “Who says we won’t?” This seems to be a good indication that Alex will be featured in the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare sequel, and maybe will even have a proper re-introduction, though fans will have to wait to find out more on that front.

There are some fan theories that Alex in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will actually become one of the characters from the original Modern Warfare trilogy. This includes a theory that Alex is actually going to be Roach, which would likely mean that he still has an unfortunate fate ahead of him. One of the most famous scenes from the original Modern Warfare 2 is when Roach and Ghost are killed by General Shepherd, so it’s possible that moment will be recreated in the reboot series.

However, it’s unlikely that too many plot details for Modern Warfare 2 have been ironed out at this point. Infinity Ward is focused on supporting the current Modern Warfare with regular content updates, and the next two years will likely see new Call of Duty games from other developers under the Activision umbrella. It’s possible that the reboot version of Modern Warfare 2 won’t be out to the masses until 2022 at the earliest, so fans should prepare for a long wait ahead of them.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
