Vehicles, objectives, and other factors force players to adapt their strategies to evolving problems. Still, it is impossible to prepare for everything, as one Modern Warfare player found out.

As Reddit user Im_Ain made their way up the stairs in a match of Ground War on the City map, they carefully had their gun at the ready and swiftly eliminated a player on the roof. Proceeding through the doorway, the player rounds the corner, ignoring nearby bodies as they head for cover. Suddenly, bullets start spraying out of a nearby corpse, killing them quickly. As the game loads the killcam, Im_Ain’s last sight is a nearby body floating randomly towards them in a bizarre model glitch.

Not believing what they saw, the player deployed a second time onto the same roof. After eliminating another player, they turn around to see the body dragging itself across the ground and once again unleashing bullets into them. This time, Im_Ain is ready and manages to eliminate the corpse, causing the model to immediately stand up and fall back over.

What is no doubt a graphical issue, this bizarre glitch made for a very entertaining clip for the Call of Duty community. Many are calling it the “dead strat,” referencing its original position as a corpse. This is not a cheat, exploit, or anything sinister but rather a simple bug that causes the model to not reset properly. There is a high chance that the affected player had no idea they were glitched.

This entire incident reminded some of an early Modern Warfare glitch which would allow players to slide and get stuck prone while shooting. The main difference is that the older glitch was easily triggered, while this new bug seems to be a complete accident.

Still, a bug is a bug and any incident like this should quickly be reported to Activision and Infinity Ward. Although the bug is fairly entertaining, it can present an unfair balance and ruin the session.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
