Modern Warfare is no stranger to historical sites when it comes to multiplayer or even battle royale maps. The images posted to Reddit give life to the Chernobyl theory. Buildings that are definitely from Pripyat show up in the loading screen and start screen. From the iconic Ferris Wheel standing amidst a forest of trees and dilapidated buildings to ‘New Safe Confinement’ being shown in the background. Combine this with the massive file size of the game that could easily hide a new map and a bigger picture starts to appear. There is little doubt left in many fans minds that Modern Warfare and Warzone may be traveling to the iconic site very soon.

The author of the Reddit post revealed their theory below the images. He points out that these locations were shown before back in 2007’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare release. Price was featured in these missions prominently. Connect this with mentions of Warzone’s fight heading to Urzikstan this is a general North West direction. The fight could plausibly travel from Verdansk to Urzikstan, then up to Ukraine and eventually Chernobyl.

Fans passionately research the loading screens of each Modern Warfare season. One fan confirmed that Season 2 featured a port in Slovakia. After some careful digging, and translating of the strange numbers that flash across the screen, one Reddit user was able to track the game’s Season 2 background to Bratislava. Follow the river up and it connects to the Black Sea, then up to Dnieper River in Ukraine, and eventually running through Chernobyl, adding more fuel to the fire of this intriguing fan theory.

Some players argue that the Ferris Wheel makes an appearance in the Trench map and Warzone already. This very iconic symbol is in both Chernobyl and in the original Price missions back in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and the developers would know this, so it makes it hard to believe that adding it was an accident. As fans continue to debate how all the facts fit together, Call of Duty creeps closer with more puzzling details.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available on PS4, PC, and Xbox One.
