These microtransactions weren’t part of the original game, and now come in the form of random loot drops called Supply Drops. Unlike titles such as Gears of War 4, however, it looks like Activision has introduced a surprisingly reasonable system that won’t gouge too deeply into gamer’s wallets. In fact, the cosmetic content can still be picked up entirely with in-game currency and unlocks without too much grinding.

The idea of Supply Drops came from Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and in Modern Warfare Remastered they can either be purchased with Call of Duty points or Depot Credits. These credits can be earned both in-game or with real money via microtransactions, meaning these cosmetic items aren’t locked behind a paygate. These drops won’t grant any pay-to-win advantages either, as their contents are purely cosmetic: only weapon camos, reticles, and new character skins will come in through the Supply Drops.

Results from a datamine in November seemed to indicate that microtransactions were on the way, so some savvy gamers have been expecting this all month. Originally, a Reddit user named Tails had uncovered several weapons which weren’t in the game at the time, including a fully-fleshed out shovel melee weapon from Black Ops 3. As gamers now know, the shovel is now available as via microtransaction, alongside a hammer melee weapon.

Yesterday’s update also introduced six new remastered maps to the game, along with two classic game modes  (Gun Game and Hardpoint, specifically). Female gamers will now also have more representation on the battlefield, with female fighters being introduced in the latest update.

Players will also be able to unlock some of the aforementioned cosmetic items by completing in-game challenges as an alternative to spending cash. Some of these items can also be crafted from Parts, which is Modern Warfare Remaster’s version of Salvage from Infinite Warfare. If it wasn’t obvious, there’s a pleasant selection of ways that gamers can earn these cosmetic items.

Will be you diving in to some of the game’s microtransactions, Ranters?
