The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 3 release date was announced by the official Call of Duty Twitter account, alongside an image showing new multiplayer Operators with Season 2’s Ghost in the background. Players have also noticed maps in the background that seemingly confirm that the Call of Duty 4 map Backlot is in fact coming to Modern Warfare with Season 3, though official details are scarce at the time of this writing.

As for the Operators, the one in the front appears to be Alex from the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare single player campaign. However, in order to go a bit more in-depth with why players think that may be, we will have to delve into spoilers for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare single player campaign, so those that have yet to finish the campaign should proceed with caution.

At the end of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare campaign, Alex sacrifices himself for the mission, staying behind to set explosives and seemingly dying in the blast. However, this image seems to suggest that Alex is alive, but lost his leg in the explosion. Fans may notice that the person in the image, whether it be Alex or another character entirely, has a prosthetic leg. Fans will need to wait for more official details to find out more.

It’s possible Activision and Infinity Ward will reveal more on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare later today, but if not, then fans should be able to expect some more details on Monday. New Call of Duty: Modern Warfare updates are usually detailed on Mondays, with the updates themselves released on the following Tuesday. Then fans will just have to wait for April 8 to roll around to start playing Modern Warfare Season 3.

Expect more information on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 3 within the next few days or so.
