According to Best Buy’s website, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare trilogy will include all three original games, as well as the Stimulus Package DLC for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which contains five additional maps for the game. Gamers can expect to be able to pick up the trilogy collection starting on May 17th of this year for $29.99. However, there is one bit of news that may disappoint some gamers: the trilogy isn’t a HD remaster, or a remake. Instead, the three original games will be re-released together for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, with no real changes made to the games.
This will probably come as a disappointment to Call of Duty fans, as many had expressed hope that the Modern Warfare games would finally be ported to current-gen consoles with improved visuals, to boot. Unfortunately, that doesn’t appear to be the case, at least not at this time. However, Activision is still moving forward with its plans to remaster Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, so perhaps they’ll eventually make it to the sequels as well.
Admittedly, not everyone is happy with the way that Activision is handling the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare remastered edition. Activision surprised fans by announcing that remastered edition of Modern Warfare would only be available to gamers who buy the upcoming Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and gamers have been extremely vocal in their distaste for Infinite Warfare. This move on Activision’s part has even led one Game Rant writer to believe that Activision is losing faith in Call of Duty entirely.
At the end of the day, this probably isn’t the news that long-time Call of Duty fans were hoping for. While a trilogy with all three Modern Warfare games in one package is nice, it’s a little late, as most gamers have probably moved on from the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. For those who still have the last-gen consoles, though, at least the price point is reasonable. For anyone who missed out on these major Call of Duty hits the first time around, it might be a good time to give them a go at a significant discount from their original MSRP.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Trilogy is set to release on May 17th for PS3 and Xbox 360.
