As the release is right around the corner, fans will be hoping developers will be able to refine the gameplay experience in the best way possible. Yet, the final version should maintain some of the things that have worked well.

6 Gunplay

The most crucial part of all FPS shooters almost always comes down to its gameplay, and specifically how the gunplay and battles function. Each entry in this franchise has featured tweaks and variations in its gameplay features, but in this case, Infinity Ward has been able to captivate players again.

Sticking to the gameplay and combat engagement of Modern Warfare (2019), Modern Warfare 2’s beta has improved on this by providing a much more realistic and grounded experience. From the reloading animations to the return of the ‘dolphin dive,’ this has left many fans wanting more and waiting to see what the game’s full untethered experience has to offer.

5 Enemy Footsteps

Whilst this can be alleviated depending on the perks players decide to use, the addition of louder footsteps and movement has provided another layer of tactical awareness and engagement for fans to indulge in.

Players will find that they must tread much more carefully and cautiously when turning corners or approaching enemy lines. This may potentially be adjusted at the game’s release due to community feedback, but so far this has played a pivotal role in lobbies. It ultimately adds new elements in the aspect of gameplay styles, whether players wish to be gung-ho or patient.

4 Audio Design

One of the prominent praises this title’s predecessor received was its attention to detail in sound design, specifically with the weapons. Many fans who are aware will know of Modern Warfare’s (2019) realistic gunshot sounds, explosions, and spec ops-like communication among operators.

This is present here once again and appears to have been amplified to a greater extent. The new game has enabled players to position themselves more accordingly and given them the ability to spot where gunfire is coming from. Infinity Ward has made an important decision here, as this will continue to benefit fans who have been looking for the most immersive experience and the audio plays a prominent part in this.

3 Maps

The most common complaint about recent Call Of Duty titles, especially Vanguard and Modern Warfare (2019), has centered around their map designs. Whether the maps are too big or small for players, fans have frequently voiced their frustrations in the hope of developers implementing better environments and areas for players to engage in combat.

With Modern Warfare 2’s beta giving players access to four of its maps in the first weekend, the reception has changed for the better so far. Depending on the remaining maps for players to experience, Infinity Ward has the chance to raise levels of praise and satisfy fans in this area.

2 Gunsmith

A change that some fans may have not expected was the innovation of the gunsmith. This has added a new feature allowing players to use already unlocked attachments for new weapons. This may be controversial to some, as it could destroy the idea of time spent grinding for a particular weapon.

However, for players who find leveling up certain weapons to be daunting and tiresome, this is the perfect addition. It introduces the freedom of adjusting new weapons to one’s liking early on when unlocking them through challenges or the battle pass. Depending on the type of weapon a player decides to use, players can alter each style and fire mode, offering for new playing experience.

1 Executions

The Call Of Duty franchise has featured a plethora of stylish executions across its titles, giving players alternative ways to neutralize enemies besides guns. These vary among each operator and are also expanded upon each season, with new sets available for players and via the game’s store. The beta of Modern Warfare 2 features some of the more brutal and realistic executions for players lucky enough to sneak behind enemies without being spotted. While pulling this off may be much more difficult considering the addition of louder enemy footsteps and movements, the new animations and unique set of executions may make this worthwhile.

Depending on the type of melee weapons available to players, these executions may become an important factor for many players if Infinity Ward decides to use them as challenges. Doing so could potentially encourage players to engage in a stealthy play style, and opt to camp in secluded areas more often. Of course, this will also come down to the remaining maps that are yet to be experienced.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available October 28th on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
