There is some good news for the gamers out there who do make this mental change. The MG42 is a fantastic LMG whose one flaw can easily be compensated for by making it better than other guns in almost every other area of Call of Duty: Vanguard.
Operator
Constanze
Some players go about unlocking all of the operators and then playing with their favorite. Not to put a wrench in anybody’s fun, but doing that ends up costing players experience with their weapons. Some guns match up with a very specific operator.
This is the case with the MG42 and Constanze. While she has the gun equipped, both she and the gun get extra experience. Once it is maxed out, feel free to use the weapon with any operator. When leveling, though, it goes a lot faster with Constanze.

Don’t count out the MG42 just because it is one of the weapons that players get for free. It is ranked above all other LMGs in accuracy and ammo, and comes in second in speed. It is, admittedly, last in firepower, so this loadout aims to make up for that.

The tooltip for the guns suggests that it should be used for suppression. Although LMGs are great with suppression, the MG42 is an odd choice. The superior accuracy makes it more suited to picking up kills. The firepower is low, sure, but the range and rate of fire more than make up for it.
Secondary Weapon
M1 Bazooka
Although the M1 Bazooka might not have been available while completing the “Ticket Please” achievement, it’s ready to go early on in multiplayer. Doing extra damage against vehicles, this allows a mid-range weapon like the MG42 to help out with support duties.
It’s heavy and will slow down movement, but the range on this gun is sneaky long, better than many assault rifles. Whenever an enemy killstreak reward hits the skies, back away from the frontlines, shoot it down, and get back into battle. It’ll make a lot of friends.
Perks
This might not be a weapon built for silence and discretion, but Cold Blooded will prevent pesky backline killstreak rewards from seeing the player. It’s a perk that doesn’t make sense to use in a number of campaign missions but right here, it’s surprising how much extra protection it grants.

Piercing Vision is used often for marking enemies who are suppressed, which might sound like support, but with the FMJ Rounds, it pierces cover and finishes off opponents that survive taking a could of shots. Demolition is always hand for some extra lethal gadgets.
Lethal Slot
MK2 Frag Grenade
It might not sound the most exciting, but the MK2 Frag Grenade combines with Demolition to double its count and show exactly where the grenade will land. Being somewhere in between middle and long-range, that gives players plenty of time to cook it.
Since reloading is a bad proposition, consider using an MK2 Grenade anytime a combatant gets to cover before dying instead. One toss is usually good for at least one kill and the capability of more is icing on the cake.
Tactical Slot
Decoy Grenade
Although the different versions of the game will come with different unlocks, everybody at high level will eventually have access to the Decoy Grenade. This gadget makes a big fuss, sounds like shooting, and pings the mini-map as though it were an active combatant.
Consider it baiting a trap. Toss this grenade at a perfect mid-range length, then wait patiently for an opponent to inevitably come around and take them out. The Decoy Grenade is underutilized, meaning it catches most opponents unprepared.
Killstreaks
Care Package Counter Spy Plane Emergency Airdrop
Care Package and Emergency Airdrop speak for themselves. They can down gifts. The Care Package has a 92% chance of calling down a killstreak reward equal to or greater than the four kills it takes to get it. The Emergency Airdrop odds are 100% when divided by the three packages.
Counter Spy Plane is usually used by frontline combatants, but obscuring the minimap from the enemy usually leads to several kills. Shocking numbers of players rely completely on the mini-map and fewer players seem capable of shooting it down.
Field Upgrade
Tactical Insertion
Assault rifle users are generally alright with finding raging battles, but the MG42 is capable of so much more. Given a superior vantage point, the accuracy is capable of taking out players from a variety of ranges.
Players who have learned the maps should do their best to understand where the best spots are to shoot from. Instead of having to hustle over there every time, something this loadout is not great at, toss up a flare in the area and start out in perfect position for the next killing spree.
Call of Duty: Vanguard was released on November 5th, 2021, and is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
