RELATED: Call of Duty: Vanguard - Every Weapon That Is Not Locked, Ranked

Consider it the reward for a lengthy grind to the top of Call of Duty: Vanguard’s tier charts. So how does this special weapon become even more special? The right loadout takes this gun from a place where it is considered good to a place where it feels like cheating.

Operator

Any

Gamers that have been diligently unlocking all of the operators will be happy to see that the Volkssturmgewehr works for any of these. Any operator works just fine and will statistically appear on top of their game with this loadout.

The downside is that no operator has a natural affinity for the gun. Favorite weapons provide some nice experience boosts to both the gun and the operator. It’s a shame not to get any boost for this particular assault rifle, but with how good it is, it takes effort not to max it out very quickly.

Attachments

The recoil on this gun tends to feel like an SMG, so fixing that is an important first step. The trick is not to sacrifice too much speed or accuracy in order to do so, otherwise the Volkssturmgewehr feels like a bad SMG instead of the powerhouse assault rifle that it is.

Various versions of the game have different items and unlocks, especially regarding attachments. Thankfully, all of these can be unlocked, especially with enough practice with the weapon. With this loadout, the gun becomes both rapid and accurate.

Secondary Weapon

MK11 Launcher

The Mk11 Launcher feels like a weapon almost exclusively intended for one of the numerous campaign missions. Thankfully, it made its way over to the multiplayer as well, where it became a nightmare for opponents that use corners and Combat Shields.

The Volkssturmgewehr will kill about anything that shows its face in a corridor. But for the few that won’t show their face, the MK11 Launcher works nicely. It’s also a good option when blowing through an entire clip since the loadout does go through magazines rapidly.

Perks

Survival against explosives might not be the most flashy option, but Fortified will help soothe the damage done from grenades, which can get outright excessive in firefights. It’s best to try and avoid the blast radius, of course, but many of these are instant detonations.

Piercing Vision stacks with the FMJ rounds which can hit enemies even if they are in cover, so long as it’s a thin cover (boxes, wood, etc). Getting an extra lethal gadget softens up enemies if it doesn’t outright kill them, making it much easier to get a finishing blow with the Volkssturmgewehr.

Lethal Slot

Gammon Bomb

The Gammon Bomb gets the nod over other high-damage options because it understands its role as a backup to the gun. Standard MK2 Frag Grenades have to cook for several seconds, making them poor choices for fighters who are frequently in hot contests.

Other options focus more on damage over time, but the stopping power of the Volkssturmgewehr is designed to put enemies down quickly, not engaging in battles of attrition. Two Gammon Bombs give opponents no time to react and end many engagements before they start.

Tactical Slot

Smoke Grenade

While fighting can be brief, at least once per match there will be a time when mid-range fighters are at an impasse, shooting at each other carefully and hoping their skill and opponent mistakes will lead to a win in the encounter.

The Smoke Grenade takes this standstill and shifts the advantage firmly to the owner of the Volkssturmgewehr. Being able to see enemies when they can’t see the shooter leads to victory more often than not, especially in these scenarios where enemies aren’t given the option of backing off due to being pinned down.

Killstreaks

Care Package Warmachine Flamenaut

The Care Package is a fan favorite and any loadout not using it needs a good reason. There’s over a 92% chance of getting a killstreak reward equal to or greater than the four kills required to unlock it.

Warmachine and Flamenaut are good choices that make the player stronger in fights, meaning they don’t have to alter their playstyle to be effective. They can be used immediately without having to back off and strategically place them, as is the case with other selections.

Field Upgrade

Dead Drop

Consistently winning mid-range fights can add up to about four or five kills before getting taken down. When at that range, toss down a Dead Drop. All it takes is two such streaks and then players can realistically get their hands on the Flamenaut.

In games that appear to be going south, set the sights a little lower and toss it up after three kills. Then, all it takes is two kills and the Warmachine killstreak can help turn the tides of battle as it is good for about one kill per well-placed shot and persists through death.
