Although Quicksilver is now a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, what may be the most iconic modern rendition of the character can be found in the Fox movies X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse, both of which took full advantage of his version of super speed. Unlike other famous speedsters, Quicksilver is perpetually moving–and thinking–at incredible speeds. When the films go out of their way to show his perspective, the whole world is shown frozen in place while he alone is able to move, creating a surreal atmosphere.

TikTok user Tom Jokerz shared a short video of themself playing Call of Duty: Vanguard–or rather, being prevented from playing Call of Duty: Vanguard due to a truly incredible amount of lag. In the clip, their character wanders around a frozen map filled with other players standing statue-still as the song “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) (Remastered)” by Eurythmics & Annie Le plays in the background. They are apparently unable to shoot because their gun has a muzzle flash clinging to it from their last shot.
This song was also used in the scene from X-Men: Apocalypse where Quicksilver races through the X-Men’s exploding mansion, saving as many people, animals, and snacks as he can. While the video serves as a remarkable tribute to that scene, it may also stand as a reminder of how frustrating severe lag can be. This isn’t the first time a Call of Duty: Vanguard player has encountered something odd in the game, but it may be one of the most stylish.
As of writing, it appears that other fans sympathize with Tom Jokerz. One reply to the video theorized that Quicksilver’s real superpower is actually just causing universal lag. Several other users shared their own experiences with lag that made them appear to teleport to other players. Another group concluded that Tom Jokerz had figured out how to pause an online game, while others noted that more than one Call of Duty: Vanguard player had encountered this sort of issue.
Call of Duty: Vanguard is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
