When Call of Duty: Warzone 2 was first released in November 2022 alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, it garnered a fair bit of fan skepticism. As Warzone 2 became the focus of Infinity Ward for the foreseeable future, Resurgence and all the small-scale maps like Rebirth Island, Fortune’s Keep, and Caldera were retired. Though Warzone 2 has become just successful as its predecessor, some players still crave the close-quarter, nerve-wracking firefights. DMZ, the PvEvP game mode that was supposed to be an alternative to Resurgence, went on to garner a fanbase of its own but could never fill the void left by Resurgence and Plunder.

Earlier today, Call of Duty: Warzone 2 officially revealed the Ashika map after teasing it for quite some time. Through the Tac-map reveal, players found out that Ashika island will feature seven distinct areas with different architecture and layouts. But the most interesting point of the reveal came from one screenshot of an underground area. In the screenshot, players can see a canal opening up to an underground cavern with walkways all around and over the canal. Taking a closer look at the Tac-map, multiple entry and exit points leading in and out of the coastline can be spotted, indicating that this labyrinthine waterway snakes its way through possibly the entirety of Ashika Island.

As full details are not available regarding Ashika Island, players will be combing through every screenshot and teaser to find out details about the new landscape. It is entirely possible that outside of coastlines, many other points of accessing the caverns below Ashika exist to be found. While Ashika Island looks small from the aerial view, the introduction of the underground waterway quite possibly makes it the third-largest map in Warzone history after Al Mazrah and Verdansk.

The introduction of Resurgence and Ashika Island in Warzone 2 might be only the beginning. A few months ago, Activision sent out a survey to gauge player reaction and interest in legacy maps in Warzone, with even Blackout from Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 being an option. In the future, Activision might reintroduce game modes like Plunder and Payload with Verdansk being reworked for Warzone 2. For now, Call of Duty fans can look forward to jumping into Ashika Island on February 15, when Season 2 of Call of Duty: Warzone 2 launches.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
