This feature is the ability to drop weapons from one’s inventory. It’s common for games like Fortnite and Apex Legends to include this so players are quickly able to help each other out when they’re short on things like stronger weapons and supplies, or after they respawn with zero items. Call of Duty: Warzone lets players do this too, but to a much lesser extent. They’re free to manually drop cash, armor plates, and ammo for their teammates to pick up, but they cannot do the same with their guns.

As things stand currently, the only way for a player to drop one of their weapons is to replace it with another one they happen to find, an option that’s not always readily available in the middle of an intense match where dozens of players are constantly moving and shooting across a shrinking battlefield. This can be particularly problematic for players who respawn onto their teammates’ location from the Gulag, as they may end up far from any stray weapons armed with only a pistol and no way for their teammates to give them a better gun.
Given how standard this feature is in most battle royale games, plenty of players have been frustrated by the lack of a direct weapon-dropping option, especially in a game where players are encouraged to play in squads. To that end, they have taken to the Warzone subreddit to ask Infinity Ward to add it to the game. Some have even offered their own ideas for how the developer could spice it up, suggesting that players should be able to throw their guns as a secondary attack that can also leave the weapons lying on the ground for teammates to pick up.
Of course, this is just one of the issues in Warzone that need fixing, some of which Infinity Ward is already working on, so it remains to be seen if it will address the weapon-dropping oversight any time soon, or at all. But judging from the demand for a solution, one can assume that the developer will get to it sooner or later. Anything that makes playing the game a smoother experience can only help it in the long run, after all.
Call of Duty: Warzone is free-to-play on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
