One of the purchasable items available at these Buy Stations is a gas mask which, as Call of Duty: Warzone players will no doubt know, allows the user to remain in the large toxic gas-filled areas that fall outside of the game’s slowly closing circle. One player, however, figured out that these gas masks could be used to secure a safe and easy win, with the player managing to find a way to remain in the gas unscathed while their opposition quickly perished.

Shared in a video on Reddit, user Schmayward showed players how they managed to pull off this seemingly impossible feat, with the player thinking quickly on their feet as a team of enemies with extensive firepower looked to finish them and a single teammate off while they stood inside the final circle. Outnumbered and outgunned, the player retreats to a nearby Buy Station lying just outside the closing circle, crouching behind it and quickly buying a gas mask. Shmayward then continuously buys a new mask whenever their current one depletes, repeating the act over and over again until the circle fully closes.

With their opponents now also trapped in the gas, Schmayward merely waits as they all suffocate, even going down himself before using a self-revive to stay alive long enough to secure the victory. Many have celebrated the player’s quick thinking and utilization of the game’s systems, while others have called the act cowardly and not in the spirit of the game. It’s worth remembering, however, that raising enough money to buy as many gas masks as Shmayward needs to survive the maneuver is far from easy, so his move wasn’t exactly a cheap ploy that had no tactical input involved.

With Call of Duty: Warzone currently boasting one of the biggest communities of any modern multiplayer shooter, it’s interesting to see players share their strategies for success. A player recently highlighted their method for killing rooftop snipers, while another shared a trick on how to escape encroaching gas quicker.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
